Mark Wahlberg is An American Encore

Today, Mark Wahlberg is a successful actor and producer. He’s worked in many genres, including comedy, drama, and action.

While many know of Wahlberg's past as a rapper, some may not realize that before "Marky Mark," he went to jail for a hate crime in the 1980s. Wahlberg, then a teenage drug addict who dropped out of school, committed multiple racially motivated attacks and was sentenced to two years in prison.

In prison, Wahlberg’s life and trajectory dramatically changed for the better. He credits giving his life to God during his time behind bars, saying that he wasn't the same person he was before. After this revolutionary experience, Wahlberg cleaned up his life, became a Hollywood success, obtained his GED, and devoted himself “to personal improvement and a life of good works.”

One of Wahlberg’s victims has forgiven him and even thinks he should receive a pardon so the crime would no longer hang over his head. This victim’s grace and Wahlberg’s repentance are an example to the rest of us of strength, growth, and redemption. Mark Wahlberg is an American Encore.
